Sepilok & Orangutan Rehabilitation Center

In Malay orang means “person” and utan is derived from hutan, which means “forest”. Thus, orangutan literally means “person of the forest”. Located about 25km west of Sandakan in the state of Sabah, this center is opened in 1964 as the first official orangutan rehabilitation project for rescued orphaned baby orangutans from the logging sites, plantations or illegal hunting. Today, around 60 to 80 orangutans are living in the reserve.

Dropped by The Lake Bistro & Bar nearby to have our lunch while waiting for the orangutan rehab center’s opening hour. This restaurant is operated by Sepilok Nature Resort Sdn Bhd, a place for nature lovers!

The orangutan rehab center is neighboured to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center, they share veterinary facilities, personal, parking, access roads and ticket gates.

Walking on the boardwalk surrounding by nature is one of my favourite thing to do here.

Waiting for the orangutan feeding session.

Met a beautiful little girl! She looks like a barbie doll!
